Alaknanda Glacier Disaster Uttarakhand

Sonu Sood, who was in the spotlight to help migrants during the COVID-19 pandemic, came back to the spotlight as he claimed that he would help the family of a deceased man who died in a flash flood in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. His name was Alam Singh Pundir, a Rihiv Company as an electrician. He was a resident of a village of Tehri. He worked in one of the tunnels when a flash flood struck. The deceased had a family of five, one wife of four daughters aged 14,11,8 and 2. Sonu Sood has adopted and promised to support their education and marriage

On February 7, a glacier in Jashimnath Chamoli district of Uttarakhand burst.11 days after an avalanche and flash flood occurred in Alaknanda river. As the calamity occurred Pradhanmantri Narendra Modi requested the locals to gather at Purba Medinipur district West Bengal.

The Rishigarng Power Project was severely damaged, and an hydraulic power station and 5 bridges were also destroyed by a flash flood.

ITDP and SRDF are still rescuing people who have remained in debris, 31 of 62 bodies have been identified and about 150 people are still missing, 68 human limbs needing DNA testing.

The CM of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat, also announced that they would provide 4 lakes of compensation for the family of the deceased. The extra health of 2 lakh will be provided by the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for those who are critically injured, with a compensation of 50,000. The Uttarakhand CM also said that a scientific expert team would investigate the entire disaster.
